That Which Truly Abides

Rev. Jeffrey Symynkywicz, January 13, 2002

It is in the emptiness inside of us
that God has the most room to grow.
It is in the deepest hunger
that we may be fed our greatest feast.
It is in knowing what we don’t know
that Holy Wisdom can pitch
her widest, most-enfolding tent.

When the ego ceases,
the soul begins to soar.
When God closes a window,
the Spirit opens a door.
It is when all has been taken
that we truly learn to give--
and in letting go of life
that we truly start to live.
And in letting go of life,
we truly start to live.

So as we grow older,
and watch as the vast train of years
trails steadily behind us,
we come to know first hand the truth
of all Life has to offer;
so we reach out to accept these gifts
gracefully but not too eagerly,
with a hand that holds this moment,
but never grasps or clings to it:
for we know surely in our hearts,
that even this shall fade away and pass
in the eternal, deathless glow
that each new morning brings.
