We do not move in a straight line

We do not move in a straight line
toward that which is Holy,
but twisting and turning,
spiraling and circling,
we move forward
and dive deeper
toward where we need to be.

And whether we complete our task

in this life
or need to come back again to finish it
is unimportant
if we can look back
and say:
There is something new
I have learned today.

Certainly, the lessons we learn

may well lie forgotten
two days in three
but that we learn anything at all
amidst the sound and fury of this life

is miracle enough.

And reason enough

to continue on this journey,
and even to rejoice
and turn yet again
toward another wondrous day of living
on this amazing Earth.
