The holy, wholly mystery |

The spirit of life,
the force and power,
the ground of being,
is a holy mystery,
and it is wholly mystery.
Yet it is also universal as well,
as immanent as the taste of cool water,
as warm as sun on skin,
and bright as the laughter of the child
in the next room.
For this we know:
God is not absent, distant,
detached and separated from us;
the mystery goes within,
deeper and deeper, not
further and further away.
God emerges out of us,
and we from God,
and through us, in us,
in the unity of all our moments,
transcending them
and hurtling off into all eternity.
We bear God to one another constantly--
a living, breathing beauty
or a stillborn tragedy? That is our choice.
Continually, the angels appear at
our bedsides with wonderful annunciations
and ask us,
“Will you magnify this soul of yours
or won’t you?”
